Armenia's President to attend Georgian counterpart's swearing-in ceremony
2018-12-11 17:58:34

Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian and Mrs. Nouneh Sarkissian will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Georgia’s President-elect Salome Zurabishvili, President’s Press Office reports.

The inauguration ceremony will take place in the city of Telavi on December 16.

Salome Zurabishvili will become Georgia’s first President

The ex-diplomat received over 59% of the vote during the run-off on November 28

Ms Zurabishvili was backed by the ruling Georgian Dream party while Mr Vashadze was a united opposition candidate.

Zurabishvili, 66 was born in France and served as French ambassador to Georgia until becoming Georgia's Foreign Minister in 2004. She was sacked the following year and some Georgians still look at her foreign background with suspicion and criticize her for her contention that Georgia started the 2008 war with Russia.
