My Step bloc to get 88 seats in Armenia's new Parliament
2018-12-17 10:50:22

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s bloc My Step will hold 88 mandates in the 132-seat Parliament, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has declared.

Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia parties will have 26 and 18 seats respectively. Under the Electoral code, the two parties have been granted additional mandates to form 1/3 of the National Assembly.

The political forces have until December 23, 6 pm to enter coalition with a maximum of two forces elected to Parliament.

Afterwards the CEC will make a decision on convening an inaugural session of the newly-elected Parliament, where the President, the Vice-President will be elected and Standing Committees will be formed.

The National Assembly will not elect the Prime Minister. According to the Constitution, the President will appoint the candidate presented by the parliamentary majority.

The early parliamentary elections in Armenia saw acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s My Step bloc win a landslide victory with over 70 percent of the votes. It will be joined by Prosperous Armenia Party and Bright Armenia to form the new National Assembly.
