The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a note to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moscow over discrimination against Russian citizens at Azerbaijani airports, RIA Novosti quotes a diplomatic source as saying.
“The Azerbaijani side has once again assured the Russian colleagues that steps will be taken to settle the problem,” the source said.
The case refers to discretionary attitude towards Russian citizens of Armenian descent.
Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told a briefing last week “Moscow hopes Baku will refuse from the policy of denying entry to Russian citizens of Armenian descent.”
She said at least 16 such cases were registered last year.
Zakharova added that the facts are a gross violation of the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation and contradict the letter and spirit of Russian-Azerbaijani relations.
