Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has backed Defense Minister David Tonoyan’s formula of “new war, new territories.”
Speaking to reporters at Yerablur Pantheon today, PM Nikol Pashinyan said “the noise about David Tonoyan’s statement is senseless."
“Had he made a different statement, I would dismiss him from the post of Defense Minister,” Pashinyan said.
“David Tonoyan said that in the event of new war, Armenia will aspire to win it. If the Defense Minister happens to think differently, he will not work as Defense Minister,” the Prime Minister stated.
He added that “this in no way shadows the peace process. Instead, he said, “it stresses the importance of the peaceful settlement process.”
Addressing the Armenian community in New York last week, Defense Minister David Tonoyan reformulated the “territories for peace” format into “new war for new territories.”
